Patrick Mahomes finds himself on the brink of history today as he attempts to be the first quarterback to win three Super Bowls in a row with one team.
The Kansas City Chiefs will be taking on the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
To show how excited and ready he is, Mahomes has posted a video on his Instagram that shows him celebrating passionately on the pitch after a recent victory.
Mahomes' biggest fan
The star quarterback has an overwhelming duty to deliver on the biggest stage because his very ill grandfather will be watching on.
Patrick's mother, Randi Mahomes, spoke to PEOPLE during the NFL Honors in New Orleans on Thursday and she revealed that Patrick's grandfather is in a hospice now and is 'hanging on' to see his grandson win the Super Bowl for an unprecedented third time in a row.
Randi has been updating Patrick on his grandfather's health recently but she said she doesn't want to 'bug him' but has been letting him know that his grandfather is 'watching and he's excited'.
When explaining that Randy sometimes has bad days, Randi said: "the one thing that he remembers" is when the Super Bowl is. "I know that it has meant a lot to him," she said.
"And I think he's hanging on because he wants to see his grandson do an amazing thing or just let him play.
"I mean, he must be such a proud grandpa, so proud. And my mom was very proud and his other grandparents [were too]."
