The Kansas City Chiefs have looked to be proactive this offseason in fortifying Patrick Mahomes' offensive line after a 2024 season that saw the three-time Super Bowl champ get hit the most he ever has.
A total of 47 sacks (including postseason) was the most in Mahomes' career, and to help improve the line, the Chiefs signed Jaylon Moore from the San Francisco 49ers to fill the left tackle role.
But with star guard Joe Thuney moving on to the Chicago Bears for salary cap relief, the Chiefs now have a hole at guard, and some think Kingsley Suamataia can fill it.
But NFL.com's Chad Reuter has the Chiefs taking Alabama guard Tyler Booker in his latest mock after trading up with the Baltimore Ravens.
"Kansas City is haunted by its inability to stop Philadelphia's front four in the Super Bowl," Reuter writes. "The Chiefs signed 49ers backup tackle Jaylon Moore to a two-year, $30 million free-agent deal, but they keep addressing the OL issue in this exercise. K.C. sends first- and third-round selections to Baltimore for this pick and a fourth-rounder, adding Booker to replace Joe Thuney up front."
A physical beast and team leader, Booker would slot straight in at guard for the AFC champs. A good run blocker and solid in pass protection, Booker has good size and, per Lance Zierlein, has elite length and good hands.
What this selection would mean for the likes of Wanya Morris and Suamataia is unknown, but the Chiefs can't gamble on protecting Mahomes; they have to get it right.
In Booker, the Chiefs get a solid starting-caliber guard who will also take his leadership traits and apply them to the unit to become a quality addition to the offensive line.
