Patrick Mahomes Delivers Clear Message About Chiefs’ 2025 Revenge Tour

It wasn’t too long ago that the Kansas City Chiefs walked off the field following their blowout Super Bowl LIX loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite a 15-2 regular season and a run through the AFC playoffs, Patrick Mahomes and company failed to achieve their ultimate goal.

The offseason has allowed everyone to sit with their feelings, and Kansas City is aiming to right their wrongs in 2025-26. Plenty of criticism has been thrown the Chiefs’ way, with Mahomes specifically catching strays by way of other signal-callers being ranked above him.

On a July 7 appearance on “Up & Adams” with Kay Adams, Mahomes was asked about the Chiefs’ looming revenge tour. While the two-time NFL MVP hears the noise, he feels the best way to silence it is with the team’s play on the field.

“I feel like I’ve had to sit back and just listen to people talk and talk and I’m like, ‘let’s just play football and just handle it all out there” Patrick Mahomes on 2025

Patrick Mahomes Wants Chiefs to ‘Show Who We Are’ This Season

Success is the best form of redemption, if you ask Mahomes.

“You know, I’m honestly just ready to play football again,” Mahomes said. “Whenever you lose, you kind of have this taste in your mouth that you want to go out there and revenge that or whatever you want to say. At the same time, I feel like I’ve had to sit back and just listen to people talk and talk. I’m like, ‘Let’s just play football and just handle it all out there.’ I don’t really want to talk about it. I just want to go out and show who we are as the Kansas City Chiefs.”

At this point, it shouldn’t come to anyone’s surprise that Mahomes didn’t publicly lash out at anyone who doubts him. There’s no denying that the future Hall of Fame quarterback is petty to a degree, as every all-time great is, but he’s smart about it. Time and time again, he emphasizes letting his play do the talking for him.

Given the Chiefs have appeared in five of the last six Super Bowls, it’s a sound strategy to have. With Mahomes under center, the worst season outcome Kansas City knows is an overtime loss in the AFC Championship game. That’s an insane level of stability provided by not only No. 15, but also the rest of the Chiefs’ core. Betting on them to respond to adversity is a solid line of thinking.

Fewer Injuries Could Lend Kansas City a Helping Hand in 2025-26

Let’s address the elephant in the room: Mahomes wasn’t without blame for how last season went. In 16 regular-season starts, he posted career-worst full-season marks for passing yards (3,928), touchdowns (26) and yards per attempt (6.8). At times, his decision making and pocket presence were both erratic. While Mahomes still has a case for the best field general in the sport, he isn’t immune to honest analysis.

With all of that said, much of the credit for the Chiefs’ shortcomings shouldn’t be attributed to Mahomes. A month into the season, he was without his top two wide receivers as Rashee Rice and Marquise “Hollywood” Brown dealt with long-term injuries. Additionally, the left tackle situation was a complete mess. None of Kingsley Suamataia, Wanya Morris or D.J. Humphries proved to be viable. Guard Joe Thuney did… until he didn’t.

If the Football Gods permit Mahomes to have a full complement of weapons, his output should return to form. That’s far from a guarantee, as he knows all too well, but fortune might just be in his favor. Once – and if – things fall into place, that revenge tour might have some legs to it.
