Pittsburgh Steelers Sign Key Position Before 2025 NFL Draft

The Pittsburgh Steelers have one major position not taken care of ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft. The Steelers do not have a starting-caliber quarterback on their roster.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers is expected to sign with the Steelers this offseason, and one date to keep an eye on for the decision is Wednesday, April 9, when Rodgers participates at an event with Pat McAfee in Pittsburgh.

While the Steelers are waiting on finding a QB1, the team took care of a necessary piece to protect whoever starts under center.

Did the Pittsburgh Steelers sign a swing tackle for Aaron Rodgers?

Per the Steelers website, the team signed offensive tackle Calvin Anderson to a two-year contract.

Via the Steelers:

“Anderson was signed by the Steelers during the 2024 season and appeared in four games, but finished the regular season on the Reserve/Injured List. He was activated and appeared in the Steelers Wild Card Game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Anderson, who was originally signed by the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent following the 2019 NFL Draft, has appeared in 50 career games, starting 14. He spent time with the Patriots and New York Jets, before being signed to the Denver Broncos 53-man roster in 2019.”

Anderson played four years of college football Rice before he transferred to Texas in 2018.  He earned All-Big 12 Conference honors in 2018.

Calvin Anderson is on a two-year deal

Nick Farabaugh of PennLive suggested that Anderson will become a swing tackle for Pittsburgh.

“A two-year contract for Anderson heavily implies he will be the swing tackle to me,” Farabaugh posted on X. “He has started 14 games in his career, and has played right and left tackle. He played 29 snaps in the team’s WC loss against the Ravens and allowed just one pressure in 25 pass blocking reps.”

Anderson could become a key protector of Rodgers in 2025 if an injury occurs on the offensive line. And if Rodgers indeed signs with the Steelers.
