Quarterback is going to be a major point of contention for the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Raiders have visited with many of the top options available at the quarterback position for this class. However, with the trade for Geno Smith, it is unlikely that the team drafts one in the first round. While Miami’s Cam Ward and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders are expected to hear their names called early, Ole Miss’s Jaxson Dart and Alabama’s Jalen Milroe also have a chance to be drafted higher than expected.
Another option is more likely to be available for the Raiders on Day Two, and he has given plenty of reasons to suggest he loves the fit.
A recent draft visit with the Raiders has earned the praise of a quarterback prospect.
On The Rich Eisen Show, former Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers talked about his visit with the Raiders last week. From what Ewers said about the organization and head coach Pete Carroll, the visit seems to have been a success.
“It’s been a surreal moment for me, and I’m just trying to enjoy it,” Ewers said. “Coach Carroll was amazing – you know, he’s always talking about competing, competing, competing. I think he probably says that word about 100 times a day.”
“It’d be super cool to be part of a program, part of a franchise that they live and die by how they compete.”
Ewers’s ringing endorsement of Carroll’s compete-heavy philosophy is definitely a green flag and, while it does not guarantee the former Longhorn will be drafted by the Raiders, it certainly does not hurt his chances.
Ewers certainly has the arm talent to succeed, but he suffers from the classic rookie issues of forcing plays and needing to make better decisions. Fortunately, the Raiders have Smith and Aidan O’Connell on the roster, meaning Ewers will not be pressed into action too early. While predictions have Ewers anywhere between the third or fifth rounds, a quarterback run could force the Raiders’ hands and take Ewers as high as the second round to ensure they have their quarterback of the future.
Ewers has the opportunity to become the Raiders’ quarterback of the future, depending on if the team grants him such a chance.
