Rangers assign Matt Rempe to Wolf Pack in AHLThe New York Rangers have announced that they have assigned winger Matt Rempe to their AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack.

According to Daily Faceoff insider Frank Seravalli, the Rangers are hoping that playing in the minors will allow Rempe to get more playing time and continue to build his game, with a return to the NHL more than likely down the line.

Rempe had been in the NHL since February of the 2023-24 season, playing 17 regular season games and 11 playoff games before making the Rangers out of camp again this season. However, he’s mostly spent the season in the press box, only getting into two of the Rangers seven games, most recently playing against the Toronto Maple Leafs last Saturday. Rempe had been held off the scoresheet in both games, including penalty minutes as he had no penalties or fights in the two games.

Rempe had 1 goal and 1 assist for 2 points in his 17 regular season games last season, along with 71 penalty minutes. He also had 1 goal and 10 penalty minutes in 11 playoff games as the Rangers lost in six games in the third round to the Florida Panthers.

Rempe also played 43 games with the Wolf Pack in the AHL, where he had 8 goals and 4 assists for 12 points, along with 96 penalty minutes.

Rempe was a 6th round pick for the Rangers in the 2020 NHL Draft out of the WHL, and after two more seasons with the Seattle Thunderbirds, he made his professional debut with the Wolf Pack in 2022, spending parts of two seasons there before making his NHL debut earlier this year.

Rempe is in the final year of his three-year, entry-level contract with an $820,000 cap hit, and will be a restricted free agent at the end of the season.

The move comes shortly after the Rangers suffered their first regulation loss of the season, coming at a score of 3-1 to the Florida Panthers on Thursday night. That gives New York a 5-1-1 record, which puts them in first place in the Metropolitan Division. They’ll look to bounce back with another win when they host the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday at 7 p.m. EST.
