According to NFL Insider Diana Russini, Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams wants to get out of Las Vegas.
The Kansas City Chiefs, having lost two starting wide receivers already in Hollywood Brown and Rashee Rice, were immediately pegged as candidates to land Adams. Despite those injury troubles, reports are now saying that they do not have interest In Adams.
The Kansas City Chiefs can’t afford Davante Adams
One of the main issues preventing the attempted acquisition of Adams for many teams is Adams’ salary. Adams is owed $13.5 million for the rest of the season, a number that will drop by $970K as every week passes.
The Chiefs simply can’t afford to take on Adams’ salary without getting rid of one of their big pieces somewhere else. Kansas City QB Patrick Mahomes has shown that he can win Super Bowl(s) without a bonafide WR1, so the Chiefs don’t feel a need to go out and get one to “salvage” their 4-0 season.
While Rice’s injury is believed to be better than expected because he reportedly avoided an ACL tear according to NFL insider Adam Schefter in an article from Athlon Sports, the Chiefs will need to win some games without him.
“We do know that Rashee Rice is going to miss an extended period of time,” said Schefter. “We do not yet know that that ACL is torn. He’s continuing to go through testing and there has not yet been confirmation that it is torn, as the Chiefs feared in the postgame locker room after they beat the Chargers. Again, it’s going to be a bad knee injury, but they’re hoping that it’s not as bad as they feared.”
Brown on the other hand is not expected to play for the rest of the regular season but hasn’t been ruled out for the postseason. If the Chiefs can make it to the postseason and get those two guys back, Adams’ presence will not be necessary for another Super Bowl run.
If the Chiefs can’t get those players back, Mahomes has shown that he can find a way to win games against anyone in the NFL regardless of the receivers to which he is throwing.
