Much has been said about season 16 of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, mainly because the cast has so many new faces.
So far, Shamea Morton seems to be an early fan favorite despite many viewers being skeptical of her being a peach holder when it was first announced. Now, she’s opening up about being the ‘glue’ for the cast, Kenya Moore potentially making a grand return, where she stands with Porsha Williams, and more in a new interview.
As longtime fans of RHOA know, Shamea has appeared on multiple seasons of the show as a friend of. Not only is she lifelong friends with Porsha, but Shamea also has a long history with Kandi Burruss, who has said she advocated for her to join the show in this capacity for several years.
Recently, Shamea sat down for an interview with Entertainment Tonight‘s Brice Sander. In terms of finally joining the show as a housewife, Shamea admitted, “There have been conversations in the past but it was always back to my husband having to be a part and he just wasn’t willing to do it but I think they were just like, ‘Well we’ll give him some time and he’s come around,’ and he did. He hangs out with us quite a bit this season.”
She added, “He’s always been supportive of me doing it. He was such a fan of me doing it.” Brice then asked Shamea what she’s most excited for fans to see from her. She responded, “I’m just excited to bring awareness to children with disabilities and special needs, but aside from that, for me personally, I’ve been a singer and actor for such a long time, and now I have this amazing platform. I can share my gifts, and I just hope I can change some lives in the process.”
Brice also asked about her friendship with Porsha. Specifically, he wanted to know if joining the show changed their status. She responded, “I think so. This is new territory for both of us, so it’s just trying to find our way, but if it’s a strong and solid friendship, you can come out of it. That’s what happens sometimes in friendship, in families, and in relationships. There are highs and lows, but if there’s love at the center, you can persevere through it.”
Regarding their current situation, Shamea said, “I love Porsha. I want nothing but the best for her, and I’m going to always support and be a fan of her.” She then said she was unsure why things went south with her longtime friend.
So far, Shamea has been called the ‘glue’ for the cast. When asked if she knew this would be the case when going into filming, she said, “I didn’t. I did not know that. Going into the season, I knew all of the ladies, but I was born and raised right here in Atlanta, so I wasn’t surprised to know every single lady in some walk of my life in the past.”
Brice then asked Shamea which cast member she couldn’t trust. She said, “Unfortunately, I came into the circle liking Brit Eady and now I’m just not a fan of hers at all.” In terms of what went wrong, she explained, “Honestly, it’s unfortunate because initially, we were all really cool, and I think when Kelli and Britt had a little rift in their friendship, she kind of turned on me.”
Shemea also shared that the Housewives newbie also “went there” against one of her kids, which is something that will playout on the show this season. They then discussed the drama involving Kenya. According to Shamea, “I did think that Kenya went too far with what she did but at the end of the day, even with Brit, I just… if God can forgive us, why can’t I?”
She went on, “I have a forgiving heart. I have an open heart to anybody who feels the same. I just hope that we can all move forward in a very peaceful way.” Brice asked if she sees a world where Kenya could come back, and she said, “I would be here for Kenya re-entering this group. Absolutely. Kenya’s added so much to the franchise. I would love for her to twirl her little fine self back on over here.”
When asked about Phaedra Parks having returned, she said that she came back with “good energy” and that things were much different than they were the last time they were together on the show. Brice asked her if she thought Phaedra had changed for the better, she said, “I hope she has.”
