How to Watch
Watch The Real Housewives of Atlanta Sundays 8/7c on Bravo and streaming next day on Peacock.
Though longtime BFFs Shamea Morton and Porsha Williams are usually in perfect harmony, their friendship just hit an uncharacteristic sour note on The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 16.
The reason? When Shamea previewed her new song, "Neva Had," for her castmates at Angela Oakley's bank dinner, not only did Porsha talk over the track, but she also "genuinely thought" Drew Sidora was the one singing.
"Just to have the song be disrespected in a way where people can't even hear it, I'm like, you're supposed to be celebrating in this moment and cheering me on," Shamea explained to Angela during a music studio visit in RHOA Season 16, Episode 6. "It hurt my feelings because everything that she has done, I have been her biggest cheerleader. And I need that same energy when it comes down to things that I'm passionate about."
Noting that she clocked Shamea's "frustration" with Porsha at the dinner, Angela responded, "I just hope, because of how loyal you are to her, that loyalty is reciprocated."
Shamea reveals an unaired conversation with Porsha
In a confessional, Shamea added, "Honestly, Porsha didn't know that I was gonna play my song," before revealing they discussed the incident after leaving Angela's event.
"She was like, 'Oh, I'm sorry, I really did not know it was you.' And I was like, 'All right, well… that's weird, but OK,'" Shamea told a RHOA producer. "I'm gonna let it go. But I'm still a little bit hurt."
For now, she's holding off on addressing that lingering hurt again — despite having the opportunity when she and Porsha met up for some tea (both literal and figurative) and miniature golf, later in the episode.
"It's been a minute since I got to just hang out with Porsha, so I'm like I don't wanna be the Debbie Downer," Shamea said. "I'm bothered by the fact that she talked over my song, but I'm also OK with putting my feelings aside. She's going through a lot, and I don't know that this would be the appropriate time."
As the former Atlanta Hawks cheerleader admitted in a separate producer interview, "I definitely prioritize Porsha's feelings over mine. . . . I'm a people pleaser. I never want to hurt people's feelings. I always want people to leave me better than [how] they came to me."
Shamea Morton's music career, explained
Elsewhere in the episode, Shamea also explained to Drew and Angela that Porsha's behavior was particularly hurtful because she's been "passionate about music" since childhood.
"I grew up in the choir and I went from doing that to doing R&B. I even did some pop back in the day," she said, before revealing that she used to be in a Destiny's Child-style girl group called Pretty Toni with Grammy nominee Keri Hilson. "Music is not new to me."
Back in Episode 4, Shamea said that, in addition to Pretty Toni, she was also previously in two other music groups, Co-Ed and J-7even. "But I've just never had my shot," the mom of two added.
Shamea is hoping to step out of "the shadows" soon, though, now that she’s been in the studio with Next's Robert "RL" Huggar. "He literally has written for Luther Vandross, worked with Jamie Foxx, Ginuwine — and now Shamea," she quipped after a studio session with the singer-songwriter, as well as record producer B-Flat. "They've just really built my confidence back up."
As she continues to work on new music, don't miss what else Shamea shared about Porsha's "hurtful" comments.
