He was last in action in February when he took on late replacement Josh Padley on the Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol rematch card in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, retaining his WBC Lightweight World Title.

Stevenson was originally scheduled to take on Floyd Schofield, but the young prospect was forced to pull out of the contest on fight week after suffering an illness that left him hospitalised.

It was a fairly comfortable performance for Stevenson against Padley, winning nearly every round on his way to a ninth round stoppage victory, but some fans still felt the American should have won more convincingly.

Attention has now turned to who he will take on next, and he has named a world champion he would be willing to step up in weight to take on.

That is Teofimo Lopez, the reigning WBO super-lightweight champion, with Stevenson taking to social media to call out ‘The Takeover.’

“How bout [you] fight me next Teo? Let’s line it up, we both do business with the same people. I’ll go 140 for this on God … Run it n***a, let’s make it happen”

Lopez responded telling Shakur to send an offer.

Stevenson is already a three-weight world champion from featherweight to lightweight, with a world title potentially up for grabs in a fourth division if he was to move up to 140lbs.

Lopez first has his hands full in May when he defends his belt against mandatory challenger Arnold Barboza Jr, as part of a card featuring Ryan Garcia vs. Rolly Romero and Devin Haney vs. Jose Ramirez that will take place at Times Square in New York.
