‘Southern Charm’ Star Apologizes for How He Handled Exit From Show, Teases Possible Return

Southern Charm's JT Thomas Apologizes For How He Resigned From The Show

“Southern Charm” star Jarrett “JT” Thomas opened up about his resignation from the show weeks before the season 10 premiere.

In a fan Q&A on February 27, the South Carolina businessman said viewers would soon learn the reasons for his exit amid a difficult season. Thomas also expressed gratitude for the chance to share his side during the season 10 reunion, and he hinted that he could return to the Bravo reality show in the future.

In November, Thomas posted to Instagram to announce his resignation from “Southern Charm” before completing all of his confessionals for the season.

“I informed Bravo that I will not be participating in the 2-3 remaining green room interviews remaining before [season 10] airs,” he wrote at the time, adding, “I no longer wish to participate any ways moving forward with the TV show. I will leave it at that for now while I work on next steps to recover both physically and mentally from what has been an extremely challenging & exhausting year.”

Thomas’s storylines this season have included allegations that he called “Southern Charm” matriarch Patricia Altschul a derogatory word, as well as his ill-fated romance with co-star Venita Aspen.

During his Q&A posted to YouTube, Thomas apologized for his sudden exit from “Southern Charm” and admitted he didn’t handle things in the best way. “I apologize to some of my castmates and to the network and some other people. And I needed to walk those back because resigning publicly like that with a hard post, that’s bad form,” he admitted. “I mean, I signed up for this, and if somebody else did that I know… so you will see me at the reunion.”

He admitted that the reunion taping was not “easy” for him. “Like quitting online, like that’s bad form and I talked to the network… And so, I do finish, and I did the reunion, and I feel good about it,” he added. “I feel like that was the right thing to do and I’m so glad … And as much as stuff still needs to get unpacked on me and my situation and my personal life, which is going to come forward over the next few weeks, it feels good to just, it feels cathartic to just come out and say something, And I’ll leave it at that.”

Thomas also revealed that he has “no regrets” about his time on “Southern Charm,” and he didn’t completely shut down the possibility of a return to the show someday.

“I learned so much from this show and learning about TV and being on TV and the pressures,” he said. “And look, life is a gift and even in failure or success you learn. And I think you learn more from tough times than you do from great times.”

When asked if he would return for another season, Thomas replied, “I think right now it’s let’s finish this season and one day at a time… It’s like, beautiful people in beautiful places and it’s, like, you’re doing cool stuff, and it would be so hard to like not continue and keep trying to grow, you know. So, let’s finish this season and let’s see what happens. But I think for right now, I’m not going to make any decisions.”

Patricia Altschul Has Forgiven JT Thomas

Thomas’s second season on “Southern Charm” kicked off on the wrong note. He resigned from the show soon after the season 10 trailer dropped and showed him flirting with co-star Venita Aspen. Thomas went Instagram official with a new girlfriend, Ali Pereless, right around the same time.

He also caused drama when he gifted canes to his co-stars, including Altschul, because he was walking with a cane after an accident. Altschul, 84, appeared offended by the cane gift.

Co-star Craig Conover later claimed that Thomas called the South Carolina socialite the B-word after she rejected his gift. The alleged diss was not caught on camera, and Thomas vehemently denied saying the word in the episode, “Lost at Sea,” which aired on February 27.

Cast mate Shep Rose also admitted that he did not hear Thomas say the word. During his Q&A, Thomas thanked Rose for having his back.

In addition, Altschul has long forgiven Thomas, whether he said the word or not. During an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live” in January, she revealed she apologized to Thomas because she doesn’t know the “true story” on what happened. “Craig said it was after they were de-mic’d,” she added.” And JT said he never said it. But the bottom line is, I am kind of a [expletive]. And I don’t really care one way or the other.”

Altschul also posted a photo of a hilarious painting she received in commemoration of the cane-gifting moment. “Look at the fabulous painting I received from @ryanalbert last night at Halls,” she shared on March 1. “Its title is the Bestowing of the Cane. #southerncharm @bravotv with special thanks to @jt.jarrett.thomas.”
