Superman & Lois Season 4 Ending Is "Very Emotional" Teases Star: "There Will Be Closure"

Expect a very emotional conclusion to Superman & Lois season 4 as the DC stars tease the upcoming series finale. The Arrowverse is officially coming to an end this fall since Superman & Lois season 4 is the final series remaining from Greg Berlanti's DC TV franchise. Set to return on Monday, October 7, Superman & Lois season 4 only has 10 episodes to finish their story, making it the shortest season for the series.

Superman & Lois stars Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch

In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Tyler Hoechlin, Elizabeth Tulloch, and showrunner Brent Fletcher spoke about Superman & Lois season 4 while also teasing the conclusion of the series. While they are all sad to see the series end after only four seasons, the trio promised an extremely emotional and surprising series finale, stating the following:

Tyler Hoechlin : I still didn't know the actual ending until we got pretty close to it. We had discussed potential endings throughout the various seasons, what we thought would be kind of cool, and even up until about halfway through the season, I was still wondering which direction they were going to go. I think they've done a beautiful job of saying something poignant,

Brent Fletcher : I don't think people are going to think we're ending the show the way that we are. When it ends and the credits come up, they're going to be surprised.

Elizabeth Tulloch : [It's] a very emotional episode. There will be closure, and everyone's going to be crying in the final episode of the series. I did.

What This Means For Superman & Lois Season 4

Something that is crucial to remember about Superman & Lois from its inception is how the creative team has always defied the expectations of being a series based on the Man of Steel and Lois Lane. With this show focusing on Clark and Lois much further in their lives, including being parents to teenage boys, Superman & Lois has always had the freedom to play with the mythology while adding their own layers to it. That is why Fletcher's comments about giving the audience a "surprising" series finale don't come as a shock at all, which could mean a number of things for the end of Superman & Lois.

While it's simply a theory, it wouldn't be a shock if the Superman & Lois season 4 story ends with Clark making the decision to step away as the Man of Tomorrow and perhaps let Jordan Kent start taking over his legacy. Since he got his powers, Superman & Lois has gone to great lengths to have Jordan step up as a hero and learn from his father. It will make perfect sense if the Superman & Lois series finale sees Clark essentially become a mentor to Jordan as the world's new Superman and slowly begin his own retirement, hence Fletcher's comment saying, "I don't think people are going to think we're ending the show the way that we are."

In the same interview with EW , Fletcher confirmed that Arrowverse star Tom Cavanagh will be playing a "new character from the DC Universe" rather than a Harrison Wells doppelgänger or the Reverse-Flash from The Flash , teasing, "I wish we could have had this character for 18 seasons. It was fun."

With only a handful of episodes for their final season, time will tell how the general audience responds to the Superman & Lois series finale. While a date has yet to be set, Superman & Lois season 4 will likely wrap up its run sometime in November or December. But for now, the DC audience can look forward to the two-hour Superman & Lois season 4 premiere in less than a month.

Superman & Lois season 4 premieres Monday, October 7 on The CW.
