Teary-eyed Teddi Mellencamp gets real about 'hard' nights during cancer treatment

Teddi Mellencamp teared up while talking about her “new normal” as she continues cancer treatments.

Over the weekend, the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” alum got candid about the physical and mental impacts of radiation and immunotherapy after doctors found multiple tumors in her brain.

“I know I speak a lot about all the fun and amazing things that I’ve been doing since all of the tumors, and I have been doing them, and it’s been my way of peace, of coping, finding happiness,” Mellencamp said on her Instagram Story Saturday, while attempting to sleep.

“But I also wanted to send a reminder and a gentle, like, ‘I feel you,’ if you’re going through this, going through a hard time, that is also normal.”

“We all find our new normal, and we do the best that we can to feel as good as we can in that moment,” she continued. “Some nights [are] really hard. Tonight’s one of them.”

The following day, the “Two Ts in a Pod” podcast host revealed that immunotherapy has been taking a serious toll on her body.

“My immunotherapy… it kinda kicks your butt, guys. It kinda kicks your butt, but it waits a little bit — and then it kicks your butt,” she said, noting that she has had to “suck down a bottle” of Powerade “every morning” to restore her electrolytes.

“I’m here to tell you, it’s not my favorite,” she said. “But it’s supposed to help.”

However, Mellencamp is “trying to find a little bit of the positive” in the situation.

“I mean I’m not a doctor — I barely made it through high school — but apparently, the more immunotherapy kicks your butt, the more it’s working, is what I was told,” she said.

“That’s why I do immunotherapy every three weeks,” she added, “whereas my radiation, for example, that I start on Monday, I do for a week straight.”

Mellencamp, 43, also responded to questions about her decision to wear a wig as she heads into a tough week of radiation.

“I’ve been getting lots of questions about why I wear a wig, they’re like, ‘Why not just rock the shaved head?’” she said. “And guys, sometimes I do.”

Although the reality TV star occasionally steps out without a wig, she admitted that wearing one makes her feel more confident.

“Yesterday, I didn’t wear a wig in the afternoon and I’ll be honest, I felt a little insecure,” she candidly explained. “So I’m going to do whatever makes me feel the best.”

The former “RHOBH” star underwent emergency surgery last month after going to the hospital due to “severe and debilitating headaches.”

After a series of tests, doctors discovered a total of seven tumors on her brain — four of which were removed — and two tumors in her lungs.

Despite feeling like she was on her “deathbed,” Mellencamp has remained optimistic, often sharing videos doing things that make her “heart and soul happy” — like riding her horse.
