Teddi Mellencamp speaks out on dad John’s ‘light-hearted’ plans for her burial

Teddi Mellencamp clarified that her conversation with her dad, John Mellencamp, about planning for her burial was not as serious as people interpreted it.

The “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” alum previously revealed that she and her dad spoke about where she would be buried if she were to succumb to her battle with stage 4 cancer, but she later explained that it was a very “light-hearted conversation.”

“I need to clarify that this was a light-hearted conversation, laughing the whole time,” she captioned an Instagram Story showing a screenshot of a report about the topic Thursday.

Teddi, 43, clarified that she is “personally doing well right now” and that the way people were retelling the story was “not accurate.”

“I appreciate helping to share my story but I would love for the headlines to be indicative of what really happened,” she wrote.

The former Bravolebrity also reiterated that she was joking when she said that her tombstone would read, “Hot girls never die.”

Mellencamp initially made the remarks during Tuesday’s episode of her “Two Ts in a Pod” podcast when she explained how her dad frantically called her to discuss the possibility of being buried at her family’s mausoleum in Indiana.

“Finally, I answer, I’m like, ‘I’m in the bath. Let me live a little,’” Teddi said. “He goes, ‘I just want to make sure you’re going to be in our group family mausoleum.’”

Teddi subsequently asked the “Hurts So Good” singer if there would be space for her three children –– daughters Slate, 12, and Dove, 5, and son Cruz, 10 –– whom she shares with her estranged husband, Edwin Arroyave.

“He’s like, ‘Well, there’s going to be the top five and then we’re gonna have little areas around it, and then that’s where everyone’s going to get buried,’” she shared.

Teddi told her dad that she would go visit the family mausoleum because she was also preparing her will.

The All In founder has been dealing with health struggles ever since 2022 when she was diagnosed with melanoma.

In February, Mellencamp learned that the cancer had spread to her brain, and doctors had found “multiple tumors” on her brain.

She subsequently underwent emergency brain surgery where doctors removed four tumors. However, she also explained that she would still need to receive radiation and immunotherapy treatments for more “smaller” tumors.

Mellencamp later announced that doctors had found additional tumors on both her brain and her lungs.

Last week, Mellencamp celebrated her “last day of radiation” and will continue her treatment with immunotherapy.
