Teen Mom’s Amber Portwood Admits She ‘Lied’ to MTV Producers About Pregnancy Scare With an Ex

Amber Portwood is stirring up drama, admitting she lied to MTV producers about a pregnancy scare with an ex.

Amber, 34, called executive producer Larry Musnik during the Thursday, February 6, episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter and asked that the crew bring a pregnancy test.

“I’m freaking out,” the MTV alum told a producer named Aaron. “Can’t we just do this tomorrow before I, like, completely cry and go and sit in a corner?”

Aaron asked Amber if she believed she was pregnant, to which she replied, “I mean, it’s possible. It was an ex. It was a complete, like, aftershock breakup situation. I’m just freaked out right now. I’m scared. Just pray for me that I wasn’t too much of a jackass.”

In a later scene, Amber and Aaron reunited to discuss the pregnancy scare, where she admitted she wasn’t pregnant and didn’t take the test.

“I’m sorry,” she said. “There’s been many times in my life where I’ve had to lie in order to get out of doing things because I’m not able to get ready, get dressed, move around, do anything. You just lie to people and say, ‘Oh, I’m busy’ or ‘I have this sickness.’ You want to make up something to where they’re like, ‘OK! We’re not going to do anything. You don’t have to go out. You don’t have to film.’”

The scene was filmed in the months after her engagement to Gary Wayt ended following his brief disappearance in June 2024.

“I’m more than heartbroken. I’m f--ked up from what he did to me,” she said while holding back tears in a later scene. “We’re talking trauma. Being told you’re a murderer and thinking your fiancé’s dead. I did not sleep for four days. I didn’t eat. That’s just the truth.”

Amber and Gary, 39, got engaged in May 2024 after starting their romance in 2023. Shortly after the proposal, Gary and Amber attended her brother’s wedding in the mountains of North Carolina on June 8, 2024. Only two days later, Amber reported Gary missing and told police that he left the rental they were staying in the previous day. While speaking to fans via a YouTube livestream on June 12, 2024, Amber said she and Gary had an “emotional” conversation before he left without his phone.

“[It] had something to do with the fact of his parents being Vietnamese and me being who I am,” the Indiana native explained. On June 14, 2024, the Bryson City police department confirmed that “Gary Wayt has been located,” and added, “No further information available at this time. Case is closed.”

Amber revealed on the show that Gary’s disappearance took an emotional toll on her and said he “left for no reason.”

“This man broke me,” the longtime reality star told executive producer Kiki Malone during the September 13, 2024, episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter. “I was stable. Right now, this is the first time in years in my life — I am 34 — I am not f--king right because a man put a ring on my finger. You broke me because we were actually in love.”

She also addressed social media users who accused her of killing Gary when he was still missing. “Why am I getting persecuted? ‘We know Amber killed him,’” she said, referencing the false theories that spread online. “I had to deal with that. Do you know how that feels when people are calling you a murderer to your f--king fiancé?”

Teen Mom: The Next Chapter airs on MTV on Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET.
