His frustration is evident. As a recognizable name in the franchise and the third runner-up, Jonathan seemed like an obvious choice. The producer’s lack of communication is understandably disappointing. However, it seemed Grant’s lead role was planned long before Jonathon's elimination.
The producer’s choice to announce Grant early paid off for the franchise. By informing viewers who the next season will feature, they fixed a huge mistake in The Bachelor's casting process. Previously, leads were announced after the competitors had undergone the casting process. This led to unnecessary drama and wasted positions on set.
This issue was emphasized in Jenn's season of The Bachelorette. One contestant, Sam McKinney, had applied for the show expecting previous contestants Daisy Kent or Maria Georgas to be selected. He was surprised and underwhelmed when he climbed out of the limo and saw Jenn. Sam’s shockingly transparent quote, “This girl is not my type. I thought the Bachelorette was gonna be Daisy or Maria," sparked criticism but highlighted a running issue.

While Jonathon doesn’t take himself too seriously, the comment seems to harbor a tinge of jealousy. Grant is an authentic personality who genuinely wants to find love. He constantly reminds contestants and fans alike he is in it for the long run. He wants to find a wife and start a family. In a video posted to Grant’s Instagram account, he states, “I just want to raise my family, and feel that love.” His romantic journey and good intentions will attract countless viewers.
Although Jonathon would have, and still could, make a fantastic lead, Grant was the most obvious choice. His season of The Bachelor will prove highly successful for the franchise. Hopefully, fans will see Jonathon leading a season shortly. The funny and down-to-earth personality deserves the opportunity as much as Grant.
