The Vikings are still looking to add a third quarterback before the 2025 season.
J.J. McCarthy and Brett Rypien make up the current quarterback room. Minnesota lost Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones in free agency, as Darnold signed with the Seattle Seahawks and Jones signed with the Indianapolis Colts.
There were plenty of discussions surrounding the Vikings’ conversations with Aaron Rodgers. While the Rodgers signing is unlikely, there might be one other that wouldn’t cost them too much to get.
Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox wrote an article on Friday with five ideal landing spots for Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis if the Titans select a quarterback in the NFL Draft. The Vikings were considered a good option to potentially be a backup to McCarthy.
“Trading for Levis, however, would land Minnesota a (somewhat) experienced quarterback without potentially costing the Vikings a compensatory pick in 2026. While Levis wouldn't really be much of a mentor to McCarthy, he has 21 starts on his resume and could be a viable placeholder if McCarthy isn't ready to start by Week 1.”
“Levis might also be viewed as a better backup than an available veteran like Rodgers, Desmond Ridder or Carson Wentz.”
“Everyone loves a creative solution, and this hypothetical trade would provide one for both Tennessee and Minnesota. The Titans would give up their second of two fourth-round picks along with Levis but would net a valuable Day 2 selection in 2026.”
“The Vikings, meanwhile, would get their QB2 while adding to their limited 2025 draft capital. As things stand, Minnesota only owns four selections in this year's draft.”
Tennessee selected Levis in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. His tenure has been bumpy. He has gone just 5-16 in his starts, throwing for 3,899 yards and 21 touchdowns to 16 interceptions.
This trade scenario would be a win-win for the Vikings, as Minnesota could acquire an extra draft pick in this year’s draft, as they currently have four picks. It also gives them a solid backup quarterback who won’t necessarily challenge McCarthy but would be able to start games if needed.
After the success of Darnold last year, coming in as a backup, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell would be able to work his magic and potentially revive Levis’ young career.
