On the latest episode of the New Heights podcast, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and his brother, Jason, picked the bucket-list sporting events they one day want to attend.
When they had finished, Travis Kelce remembered one more.
“Another one for me would be the World Cup,” Kelce said. “I haven’t been to the World Cup yet.”
Jason noted that he attended the 2014 World Cup, which was won by Germany in Brazil.
Travis knows he’ll have a chance to attend the World Cup next year and he won’t have to travel far. Kansas City will play host to six 2026 World Cup matches at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
“I’ll be doing it next year: 2026 Kansas City, Missouri, baby. Let’s go!” Kelce said on the podcast.
Jason was slightly surprised to hear Kansas City was a host city for the World Cup, and Travis gave a shoutout to Brittany Mahomes, the co-owner of the KC Current and wife of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Kansas City was selected as a host city in part because it has multiple stadiums where national teams can practice during the monthlong tournament. That includes the Current’s CPKC Stadium and Sporting Kansas City’s Children’s Mercy Park.
“For Kansas City to be, Midwest town, we had enough stadiums,” Kelce said. “Shoutout to the Hunts (and) Brittany Mahomes has a stadium here as well.”
Mahomes is a former college soccer player, and she and Kelce’s girlfriend, superstar singer Taylor Swift, have been known to hang out together.
Chiefs CEO and chairman Clark Hunt also helped Kansas City become a host city for the 2026 World Cup.
