Unexpected Steelers Offensive Players Caught On Tape Failing To Do Their Jobs And Forcing Russell Wilson To Have 'Happy Feet'

In the Pittsburgh Steelers' three recent losses, there has been plenty of blame to go around. There were issues in the secondary, allowing opposing offenses to pick them apart. There were also major breakdowns on the offense. The Steelers brought Russell Wilson in to be a difference-maker, but their young offensive line has often left him running for his life.

Unexpected Steelers Offensive Players Caught On Tape Failing To Do Their Jobs And Forcing Russell Wilson To Have 'Happy Feet'

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporter Chris Carter was recently asked by the 93.7 The Fan Morning Show how the offense can perform better in their upcoming games. How could the Steelers help get the Super Bowl winner more time, and how much is it on him? Carter said that Wilson has some part to play, but most of the blame falls to the line.

"There's sometimes he kind of puts himself in that," said Carter. "I think there was a couple times he got happy feet. The happy feet comes because he's started to not rely on the offensive line to do their jobs in those moments. What's crazy is, I didn't realize this live, I had go back and look at it on tape, it was just the left side of the line. Dan Moore got destroyed, and there were plays where Isaac Seumalo was supposed to at least put hands on people and didn't even do that. But you look at Zach Frazier, Mason McCormick, Broderick Jones; those guys seem to seem to hold it down in the pass protection in that game, and they ran the ball well."

Carter said that he thinks they need to find ways to get Dan Moore Jr. help and trust Isaac Seumalo to do his job. He said that the talent and ability is there. Much like the secondary, they have shown they can do it.

They have to plan for the fact Moore isn't good against speed rushers, and Seumalo must get a hand on somebody to help. He pointed out Jaylen Warren had to go solo one play against a linebacker who ended up in front of Wilson. This forced Wilson to move and thus not see a wide-open Pat Freiermuth in the end zone. Ultimately, Wilson was sacked because Moore got beat on his block.

"Russell Wilson was brought onto this team not just to be a playmaker, but to be a leader," added Carter. "I think this is his chance to say, 'Guys, yes, we're in the thick of the adversity, but this is what we love to do. This is football. This is why we do this stuff. This is why we work all year long for this to prove to everyone that we can do this.' I think if he can get the offense going and be the guy who communicates and helps the line get their stuff, there can be a difference made on the offense."

The line performed better earlier this season, but struggled the past three games. Wilson was sacked five times during their loss to the Kansas City Chiefs and 10 in the last three games.

Wilson, who was applauded for his earlier wins, is now being raked over the coals by the media. He and the rest of the Steelers will have a shot to redeem themselves against the Cincinnati Bengals in their final regular season game before they go into the playoffs.

Do The Steelers Plan To Keep Russell Wilson?

When the Steelers were 10-3, it seemed like a no-brainer that Pittsburgh would re-sign Wilson for at least 2025. However, the recent losses have many questioning his value. The amount it would cost to keep the nine-time Pro Bowler is unknown. Some believe he would return for about $30 million a year, while others think it is higher. The reality is that the deal has to make sense for both sides. Pittsburgh might be his best shot if Wilson aims to win another Super Bowl. While many other teams are looking for quarterbacks, few have the talent the Steelers do.
