The Minnesota Vikings are set to open up their preseason on Saturday afternoon against the Houston Texans. They are going to do so with quarterback J.J. McCarthy starting the game at quarterback, but there will be some starters who won't be playing on Saturday.
We found out on Friday morning from the voice of the Vikings Paul Allen that right guard Will Fries is likely to play, but left tackle Christian Darrisaw probably isn't quite ready yet in his return from a torn ACL.
Justin Jefferson to join broadcast Saturday
Another player unlikely to play in the game is wide receiver Justin Jefferson, as he has yet to return to practice from his mild hamstring strain that he suffered at the beginning of training camp.
Never fear fans, as you will still get to see and hear Jefferson during the preseason game, it just won't be with him playing. Jefferson will be joining the television and radio simulcast for the third quarter, and he will be on the sideline.
This isn't the first time that Jefferson will be on the call with Allen and the broadcast team. Last preseason, Jefferson was also on the call during the third quarter last season against the Las Vegas Raiders and he was vocal for both of McCarthy's touchdown passes.
It's really cool to see Jefferson get so excited for his teammates, but that's what we get from him, as he's a vital part of this team and a captain. What will Jefferson get this time around when he's on the broadcast? Well, you'll only find out if you tune in.
