The defense for the Minnesota Vikings has been one of the best units in the National Football League and they are primed to finally get back one of their best players . Inside linebacker Blake Cashman is set to return to practice per head coach Kevin O'Connell on Wednesday.
"He should be limited today, and hopefully pick up that workload as he goes. Blake's really confident and just absolutely dying to get back out there with the guys. And hopefully it's this week, and we'll see how he handles the workload. I'll keep you posted throughout, but he's he'll get some work in today."
Blake Cashman returned to practice
Shortly after O'Connell's press conference, Cashman was spotted on the practice field.
This would be a massive development for the Vikings. Through the first five weeks, the Vikings were first in EPA/play allowed on defense. Without him the last three weeks, the Vikings have ranked 18th in that same category.
Cashman's ability in coverage paired with his run defense and blitzing ability is a cheat code for defensive coordinator Brian Flores. That versatility is massive, as it allows Flores to be more multiple.
It's noteworthy that Andrew Van Ginkel was not spotted at practice the day after Flores said he was nicked up with a "minor thing." That will be worth keeping an eye on.
