Jennifer Tilly is opening up about her feelings towards motherhood. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star became a fan favorite for her eloquence and quirky lifestyle. The Chucky icon certainly had an unusual life, and children never factored into the equation.
Jennifer was married to The Simpsons co-creator Sam Simon from 1984 to 1991. They split amicably without starting a family but remained good friends until his passing in 2015. And the RHOBH star hasn’t regretted the decision to stay childless. She explained why, and what fulfilled her instead during a recent interview.
Jennifer Tilly didn’t want to “make the same mistakes” her mother did
Jennifer appeared on The Sherri Show and explained how her partners did not align with her hopes for an ideal father.
“I never ever wanted kids. And I had, sort of, not a really great childhood and I felt like, well maybe I’ll make the same mistakes as my mother did because I could see myself making those mistakes,” she explained. “And I was like, you know what, sometimes I make bad choices in men and I didn’t want to put my kids through that.”
Certainly, it’s worthwhile considering whether the environment is right to bring a child into. Jennifer is confident she made the right decision, but she had to fight with her biological clock along the way.
“But there is such a thing as a biological clock, cause I always had it for my career. Like, ‘Oh, I’m not getting famous fast enough.’ But there is a biological clock, and I had it when I got to be about 37,” she continued. “I would dream I was running through these darkened rooms and they were all crawling with babies and they were grabbing hold of me. They were like, ‘Mommy, mommy, we want to be born!’ And I was slapping them down and I was like, ‘Out of my way! I’m late for the Oscars.’”
Chucky is Jennifer’s labor of love
But the RHOBH newbie certainly has a legacy, despite it not being a biological one. Jennifer credits her role on screen as her “contribution” to the world.
“My contribution to the world is [the] Chucky movie. That’s a very important contribution. I don’t dream about having a baby that’s going to be the next president or, you know, discover the cure to some incurable disease,” Jennifer concluded. “I dream about people coming to visit my grave and leaving me little Chucky dolls on my grave.”
