The Kansas City Chiefs have lost some of their fear-factor after the Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, with the AFC champs shown a clear set of heels.
But after an offseason that has seen some handy-ish signings be made in Jaylon Moore, Kristian Fulton and Elijah Mitchell, some holes were filled.
Then the draft came, with Josh Simmons, Omarr Norman-Lott, Ashton Gillotte, Nohl Williams, Jalen Royals, Jeffrey Bassa, and Brashard Smith rounding out their 2025 class.
A new receiver, tackle, and running back for Patrick Mahomes, along with some defensive reinforcements for Steve Spagnuolo, and the Chiefs look in solid shape heading into the preseason.
But in Eric Edholm's post-draft power rankings for NFL.com, where do the Chiefs sit?
As the third-best team in football behind the Philadelphia Eagles (1) and the Baltimore Ravens (2).
"Their mission remains the same as it was in the 2021 season: bouncing back after a jarring, blowout loss in the Super Bowl," Edholm writes. "Kansas City started that '21 campaign at 3-4, got white hot and then lost to Cincinnati in the AFC Championship Game. It won't be easy doing better, but they're the Chiefs, and they've earned the respect to sit this high in the rankings."
In truth, we think the Chiefs have enough credits in the bank not to completely dismiss them in 2025, given Mahomes and Andy Reid are still one of the best quarterback/head coach duos in football.
With most of the offense returning, including Juju Smith-Schuster, Kareem Hunt, and Marquise Brown, who are returning for another go-around, and Mitchell's speed addition to the backfield, the Chiefs will be hoping for a better output this upcoming season.
Given how the franchise has a way with responding to the doubters, you will be hard-pressed to find many who genuinely believe Kansas City won't be there when the whips are cracking in January.
And a solid draft class might help further their cause.
