Season 29 “Dancing With the Stars” champ Kaitlyn Bristowe posted a message to former “Bachelorette” lead Katie Thurston on February 18.
“I got to spend a lot of quality time with Katie. She’s someone who is always honest, compassionate, funny, and only gives out F’s if they matter. This woman has always supported me and I love her. She’s a fighter and she will get through her battle with breast cancer. I love you Katie. We are all praying for you @thekatiethurston,” Bristowe captioned a post on her Instagram Stories.
The post came shortly after Thursday revealed that she’d been diagnosed with breast cancer. Bristowe served as co-host on Thurston’s season of “The Bachelorette,” which aired in 2021.
Katie Thurston Underwent a Biopsy & Will Soon Start Treatment
On February 15, Thurston took to Instagram to share her diagnosis with her fans.
“Life update: I have breast cancer,” her lengthy post began.
“Yesterday I saw all the couples post their Valentines Day celebrations. I felt envious if I’m being honest. Jeff took me to Hawaii and after, we were going to travel the world before planting roots together in NYC finally. But instead, my Vday was spent coordinating a place to live as I have to go back to LA for more testing and treatment. I used my morning to figure out insurance for NYC and laws on preexisting conditions. I scheduled appointments for another biopsy, fertility, mental health, surgery, as well as meeting with my team to discuss the overall treatment plan, which will include chemo,” she continued.
A couple of days later, Thurston underwent a breast biopsy.
“Finished biopsy. Went much better this time. Explained my last appt struggles and asked for more numbing,” she said on her Instagram Stories on February 19.
“I still cried. I don’t even know why I bothered to put mascara on today, but the numbing was much better and the music suggestions you guys gave and all the recommendations helped a lot,” she added.
Katie Thurston Will Start Chemotherapy in the Coming Weeks
As Thurston continues to wait to find out what stage breast cancer she has and what the recommended treatment will be, she did share that she can’t start chemo just yet.
“One thing is certain – I can’t start chemo until I’m done with fertility treatments,” Thurston captioned a post on her Instagram Stories on February 19.
“I reached out to [former ‘Bachelor’ contestant Danielle Maltby] who provided me with so many connections within her circle to get the ball rolling. And given my unique circumstances, some states such as CA and NY have laws requiring insurance to financially assist those seeking treating for cancer,” Thurston continued.
Thurston is engaged to Jeff Arcuri. He has been a huge support to her and has accompanied her to her various doctor appointment, according to social media.
