Eagles Ex Needs To Unlock 10-Sack Season with Bucs After 'Tumultuous' Times

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have made several moves this offseason that have seen two position groups get stronger.

While general manager Jason Licht still needs to do some wheeling and dealing, what he and the front office have done already is great business.

Eagles Ex Needs To Unlock 10-Sack Season with Bucs After 'Tumultuous' Times

First, the Bucs re-signed Chris Godwin, who could have made a lot more money on the open market but opted to stay with Tampa Bay.

The other, and it might have gotten lost amid all the free agency frenzy, but Haason Reddick now calls Tampa Bay home. The star pass rusher gives the Buccaneers exactly what they needed, and his prove-it deal could be beneficial for the defense.

For CBS Sports, who gave Tampa Bay a B grade for its offseason so far, points to those two signings as big moves by the franchise.

"Remarkably, the Bucs were able to retain wideout Chris Godwin, despite him getting to the open market," CBS Sports writes. "Even with a lot of teams vying for his services, he elects to stay put and maintain what is one of the better one-two punches at receiver between him and Mike Evans for Baker Mayfield. Tampa Bay also added to its pass-rushing group with Haason Reddick on a one-year, $14 million deal. This prove-it deal could be beneficial for the Buccaneers as they'll get a motivated Reddick playing for a bigger deal next offseason after a tumultuous season in New York."

Godwin, prior to his season-ending ankle injury in Week 7, was in superb form, having 576 yards and five touchdowns from 50 receptions. So, getting him back will only further boost an offense that managed just fine without him.

Then there's Reddick. Prior to last season with the New York Jets, in which he held out for the majority of the season, he totaled 10+ sacks in four straight years and had back-to-back Pro Bowl nods before last year.

If the Buccaneers can get some good production out of the now 30-year-old, then we imagine that Todd Bowles' defense will look vastly different than last season. He possesses fear factor, and that is something the Buccaneers' defense didn't have last year.

It might only be two moves, but in Godwin and Reddick, the Buccaneers have upgraded (sort of with Godwin returning) two key positions as the franchise looks to secure a fifth straight NFC South crown.
