Eagles fans may not need to panic over Kellen Moore leaving for Saints job

The Philadelphia Eagles could be preparing for more than just Super Bowl 59, right now.

Yes, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are awaiting them just days from now. But, there is another reality which might be setting in.

The New Orleans Saints are in the midst of trying to fill the league's final coaching vacancy, and there are many signs pointing to Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore ultimately taking that job.

Eagles fans may not need to panic over Kellen Moore leaving for Saints job

Having been long-prepared to take on a head coaching job, Moore has seemed intent on moving up and on from the Eagles after the season is over. As early as two weeks ago, he was rumored to be putting together a staff in case he landed the Dallas Cowboys job.

Just a few days ago, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Moore as the "favorite" to land the Saints' job.

So, Moore seems to be on his way out to eventually coach the Saints, right?

Not so fast, says The Athletic's Dianna Russini. During Reese's Senior Bowl week, Russini found out Moore might just not be completely sold on the job in New Orleans.

Conflicting reports suggest Kellen Moore might not be fully invested in the Saints' head coaching job

There could be one issue holding Moore back from taking that job, and it has to do with the Saints not having a quarterback. That makes a lot of sense, because it follows a similar report a while back about new Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson, whose criteria for taking a job included having a quarterback in place.

So, Moore to New Orleans isn't exactly a done deal, nor can it be until after the Eagles' season is completely over and done with. Of course, proper protocol must be followed here. Nothing imminent can be leaked or agreed to until Moore is either a World Champion or his Eagles come up just short.

Despite Russini's report, it still seems very likely that Moore ends up in New Orleans. After all, the man has been busy assembling a staff all while trying to prepare for the Super Bowl in just under a week.

Not to mention, Saints general manager Mickey Loomis informed top candidates like Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver and New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka that he is not making a final decision until after the Super Bowl.

That seems pretty telling, if you ask me.
