Teresa Giudice was recently highlighted for Investigation Discovery’s new docuseries, Hollywood Demons.
After years of Teresa blaming her brother Joe Gorga, former Real Housewives of New Jersey co-star Caroline Manzo, and Joe’s former business partner for the criminal case against her, an IRS director is finally setting the record straight on how the investigation into Teresa and ex-husband Joe Giudice began.
In a clip from the show, the RHONJ star is being blamed for the time she and Joe spent behind bars, as her decision to spend $120,000 in cash to purchase furniture on the Bravo series reportedly caught the eye of an IRS agent watching the show.
As she and her new husband, Luis Ruelas, 50, face around $3 million in tax liens, Teresa, 52, and her role in the fraud case she and Joe, 52, endured over a decade ago are being detailed, with claims of fake pay stubs and a fabricated career as a realtor.
“In 2012, one of the case agents of IRS Criminal Investigation happened to be watching The Real Housewives of New Jersey, and it shows a significant amount of cash that was being expended by Teresa. So we started to peel back the layers,” Jonathan Larsen, the director of IRS field operations, explains in the clip, which was shared on Instagram.
According to Larsen, Teresa may have had just as big a role in her and Joe’s financial downfall as he did.
“We identified one loan application way before the TV show. She supplied pay stubs. That job did not exist. She had applied for another mortgage, and this time she claimed she was a realtor making $15,000 a month, and when in fact it was totally fabricated,” he shared.
He also revealed that Teresa and Joe had lied when they filed for bankruptcy after RHONJ season one.
“After the first season here in New Jersey, Teresa and Joe filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, but they claimed that they were earning less than what they actually were,” he disclosed. “In addition, Joe and Teresa had not filed a tax return for at least eight years, from 2000 to 2008.”
Following the bankruptcy filing, Teresa and Joe pled guilty to bank, mail, wire, and bankruptcy fraud in 2014, resulting in Teresa being sentenced to 15 months and Joe receiving 41 months in prison.
The Real Housewives of New Jersey is currently on pause.
