Kansas City Chiefs’ WR Group Gets Shocking Ranking From PFF

Even though Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs emerged as the champions last season, there are still certain parts of their game that needs improvement. Case in point, their wide receiving group has been ranked right in the middle of the NFL, giving them more reason to do better ahead of the 2024 season.

The Chiefs cemented their status as a dynasty last season, becoming the first team to repeat as Super Bowl champions since the New England Patriots in the early 2000s. Under the continued leadership of head coach Andy Reid, the Chiefs secured their 11th consecutive winning season and their eighth straight AFC West division title.

While the team was unable to improve on their impressive 14-3 record from the previous year, they navigated the playoffs with ease, making their sixth straight AFC Championship Game appearance. A key 17-10 victory over the Lamar Jackson’s Baltimore Ravens on the road sent the Chiefs to their fourth Super Bowl in five years, where they would face a familiar foe in the San Francisco 49ers.

In a thrilling Super Bowl LVIII rematch, the Chiefs emerged victorious in overtime, clinching their second consecutive championship. Their stifling defense, which ranked second in the NFL in both yards and points allowed, played a crucial role in shutting down their high-powered playoff opponents. The Chiefs’ repeat triumph cemented their status as one of the greatest teams of the modern NFL era.

Kansas City Chiefs’ Wide Receiving Corp Ranked Right in the Middle of the NFL

Apart from having quarterback Mahomes lead the team’s offense, Kansas City also relies on its wide receivers to get the job done. However, in an article written by Trevor Sikkema, the PFF ranked their WR corps right in the middle of the league.

“Even with Travis Kelce, the Chiefs finished 2023 with just an 18th-ranked team receiving grade. They have since gone out and upgraded in the form of Hollywood Brown, Mecole Hardman and Xavier Worthy. If Rashee Rice can build on what he did last season with the new names around him, this should be a better unit,” Sikkema wrote.

Last season, the Chiefs finished first in the AFC West division with 11 wins and six losses. They also fielded a 15th ranked offense and a second place defense out of 32 teams in the NFL.

It remains to be seen how the Chiefs’ wide receiving group will fare in the coming season. In any case, a lot of people will be checking up on them to see the current champions will defend their title later this year.
