Starting off the season strong is important for every franchise and the Minnesota Vikings did just that in week one with a dominant 28-6 win over the New York Giants. They will carry that success into week two when they face the San Francisco 49ers who defeated the New York Jets 32-19 on Monday night.
The game against the 49ers being at U.S. Bank Stadium is a major advantage in a vacuum, but it's even more so when facing San Francisco in Minnesota. All-time, the Vikings are 15-8 against the 49ers when facing off in Minnesota, but more impressively they have beaten them seven consecutive times dating back to 1994. It is also the first time that the Vikings have hosted the 49ers in three consecutive seasons since they did in 1990-1992.

The last win the 49ers gathered over the Vikings in Minnesota was in 1992 when the Steve Young-led 49ers beat the Vikings 20-17. The last seven games have looked like this when the two teams have faced off.

This rivalry has produced some memorable moments. 2003 was the infamous game where Terrell Owens yelled at assistant coach Greg Knapp while Gus Frerotte threw four touchdowns with three going to Randy Moss. 2009 was the infamous Brett Favre touchdown pass to Greg Lewis on the backline of the endzone that propelled that team to a near Super Bowl run.
2023 was also a good game between the two teams. Both sides were missing star players with the Vikings missing Justin Jefferson and the 49ers missing Deebo Samuel and Trent Williams but the game delivered with Cam Bynum sealing the game with two interceptions, including one with less than 30 seconds left.
This looks to be a great game between the two teams and the Vikings can extend their winning streak to eight games.
