Teen Mom's Tyler Baltierra Won't Talk About Daughter Carly Despite Hearing ' Lies, Conspiracy Theories'

Tyler Baltierra is standing firm in his and wife Catelynn Lowell’s vow not to speak about their daughter Carly following drama with her adoptive parents.

“Listen, if I attempted to address every rumor, media misinformation or conspiracy theory about us, I would never be able to stop,” Tyler, 33, wrote via his Instagram Story on Wednesday, May 28. “Because even when we do, people still choose not to believe us. Remember, just because you see it or hear it on the internet, doesn’t make it true.”

He reminded his followers, “We vowed that after this last episode aired, we will not be speaking about our biological daughter or her parents anymore & that’s what we’re going to continue to do.”

The Teen Mom star noted that despite his and Catelynn’s efforts to respect Carly’s privacy, he “can’t control if any random content creator, media gossip site, or obsessive hater follow suit & respect that or not.”

Tyler explained, “But regardless of whatever new rumors, lies or conspiracy theories that may come up, we will still continue to honor what we’ve said & not talk about it.”

He concluded that people could take that decision and “draw whatever conclusions their imagination desires from it.” Tyler reiterated that no matter what stories surface about their biological daughter, I assure you, it won’t be coming from us.”

Tyler’s statement comes nearly one week after his and Catelynn’s relationship with Carly’s adoptive parents was discussed on an episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter.

Dr. Drew Pinsky had a virtual meeting with the couple during the Thursday, May 22, episode, and relayed a private conversation he had with 16-year-old Carly’s adoptive parents, Brandon and Teresa Davis.

“I can tell you what was expressed to me about Carly,” Dr. Drew said. “Brandon said she is thriving, and she has friends and she’s athletic and musical and she’s doing all these wonderful things.”

Catelynn, 33, began crying and asked why she wasn’t hearing the update directly from Brandon or Teresa. Dr. Drew explained that it was a “tough” situation, but the family’s intention was not to keep Carly from her biological parents. (Catelynn previously revealed that she was blocked by Brandon and Teresa on social media.)

Catelynn and Tyler placed their newborn daughter Carly up for adoption in 2009, which was documented on MTV’s 16 and Pregnant. Although it was initially an open adoption, as Carly became a teenager, her adoptive parents began limiting their in-person visits.

During Thursday’s episode, Dr. Drew said that Carly sang in the church and her adoptive parents had sent over a recording for Catelynn and Tyler to listen to on camera. Catelynn revealed she’d rather listen in private, but according to MTV, Brandon and Teresa denied the request. (Us Weekly previously reached out to Brandon and Teresa for comment.)

Once the episode aired, Tyler and Catelynn released a joint statement about their current relationship with Carly and her adoptive parents.

“Birthparents are always at the mercy of the adopters (which is understandable since we’re the ones who relinquished our baby to them) but that still doesn’t make it any less hard or painful,” Tyler and Catelynn wrote via Instagram on Thursday. “As I’ve stated before, we won’t be mentioning our biological daughter or her parents anymore & that’s why we’re actually relieved that this episode is airing, so that way we can all just finally move forward.”

“It was truly heartbreaking to have something so special just dangled in front of us, to then have it ripped away like that,” Tyler shared. “Navigating an open adoption as a birth parent is so difficult, especially with such a constant, imbalanced power dynamic.”

He explained that while the pair were touched by the “beautiful gift” from Carly, they wanted to listen in private due to the “emotions and sadness” they knew they’d feel.

Prior to the episode airing, Catelynn exclusively told Us that the “last time I saw Carly was, like, two years ago.”

She explained during a January interview, “It’s very hard. At the end of the day, I really just want whatever she wants and whatever that looks like for Carly, that’s all that I want. They basically have closed the adoption on us. That’s hard.”
